Two by Twos is one of the names used to denote an international, home-based new religious movement that has its origins in Ireland at the end of the 19th century. Among members, the church is typically referred to as "The Truth" or "The Way". Those outside the church refer to it as "Two by Twos", "The Black Stockings", "No-name Church", " Cooneyites ", "Workers and Friends" or "Christians Anonymous."

When people asked me the name of the church I went to when I was a child I would say that my church didn’t have a name, we just met in homes. The 2×2’s trace their roots back to founder William Irvine, born in Kilsyth, Scotland in 1863 and who converted to Christianity at age 30. In 1895 Irvine joined the Faith Mission, for which he traveled throughout Ireland and Scotland as a lay-evangelist. A schism arose in 1914, and the majority of the sect's adherents followed the leading workers (sometimes referred to as the 2x2s, The Testimony, The Truth), while a few remained loyal to Wm. Irvine (sometimes referred to as the Message People, the Witnesses, Irvinites). Who Are the Two-by-Twos? Clergy. Shun all formal religious training.
